A two-day meet of cardiologists beginning here from tomorrow will discuss and focus on bifurcation angioplasty, a hotly debated topic among the fraternity.
The meet titled, 'Hyderabad Live', will focus on latest challenges being faced by cardiologists globally in treating the blockage of arteries at the bifurcation or 'Y' junction of the blood vessels. Doctors are seriously pondering on ways to overcome this through some solution like using dedicated bifurcation stents, etc, renowned interventional cardiologists from the city Dr K Sarat Chandra and Dr Sridhar Kasturi told reporters here yesterday.
The coronary artery is the main artery which branches into several side vessels to distribute blood throughout the body. The areas where the artery branches into a vessel is called bifurcation and the occlusion formed on both sides of the junction is called bifurcation lesion. The procedure performed to clear the Y-junction of blockage is called 'Bifurcation Angioplasty'.
