2 girls drown in canal

Two girl students drowned in Gunderu canal in Ghantasala mandal of Krishna district, police said today.

Four girls went to Gunderu Dam for sightseeing yesterday evening. Of them, M Nalini (19) and M Chaithanya (18), who were cousins, drowned while trying to get a closer look of the canal, they said.

Both the deceased were degree students and residents of Ghantasala village, a police officer said, adding after the other two girls told the parents about the incident a search operation was launched and the bodies were recovered this morning.

A case has been registered and investigation is underway, police said.
