2 killed in blast in firecracker factory in Midnapore

Two women were killed after a blast took place at a firecracker manufacturing unit in West Midnapore district tonight, police said.

The blast took place around 9.30pm at Chotobazar Dhunuri Bustee under the jurisdiction of Kotwali police station, the police said.

The deceased were identified as Mumtaz Begum (20) and Munni Begum (25), a police officer said.

We have started an investigation into the matter, the officer said.

The officer refused to say whether the firecracker factory was illegal or not.
