2 killed in blast near Iranian Consulate in Peshawar

A suicide bomber blew himself up near a security check post outside the Iranian Consulate in this northwestern Pakistani city today, killing two paramilitary personnel and injuring nine others.

The blast occurred in the high-security University Town area of Peshawar, where the offices of several UN agencies and Consulates are located.

The suicide bomber emerged from a car and detonated his explosive vest near the check post manned by Frontier Corps personnel.

Other terrorists in the car then opened fired, witnesses said.

The blast killed two Frontier Corps personnel and left nine injured.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
 

In the past, the US Consulate and American diplomats have been targeted in Peshawar.
