2 persons awarded life imprisonment in separate cases

Two persons were awarded life imprisonment by a local court in separate murder cases in Odisha's Balasore district.

Additional district and sessions judge-2, Balasore, Ashok Kumar Panda awarded life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 15,000 to Manas Das of Oupada near here for torture and murder of his wife Gouri Das two years ago.

In default of the payment of fine, he would have to serve an additional jail term of six months.

In another case, the same court sentenced Himansu Sekhar Das of Firingi Patna village under Sahadevkhunta police station to life imprisonment for committing murder of a married woman, Arati Sahu, in March, 2012.
 

In the second case, while the main accused Himansu was convicted, his younger brother Manas was acquitted. Another accused is a minor and would be tried in juvenile court.

Both the judgements were delivered yesterday.
