2 policemen killed while defusing bomb in Jharkhand

Two policemen were killed and three others injured when a bomb they were trying to defuse exploded inside a police station here today.

The explosion formed a crater in the police station compound and damaged window panes of the building and adjoining houses, Superintendent of Police Akhilesh B Beriar said.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Md Ashraf, who was a member of the bomb squad, and a guard, identified as Mahendra Turi, were killed in the blast.

All the injured were ASI-rank police officers. They have been hospitalised.

It was not immediately clear whether proper procedure was followed while defusing the bomb.
 

Beriar said a high-level team from Hazaribagh had started a probe into the incident.
