2 suicide attempts in Metro rail

Metro Railway today witnessed two suicide attempts within a gap of two hours affecting train services.

In both the cases, alert drivers managed to apply breaks in time saving lives of the two.

The first incident occurred at around 3.31 PM when a man jumped into the tracks in front of a Dum Dum-bound train at Esplanade station here.

Power connection in the third line of the track was disconnected quickly and RPF personnel lifted the man and took him to SSKM Hospital where he was admitted.

Following this, Metro services to and from Maidan to Esplanade stations were suspended for around 40 minutes, Kolkata Metro Railway CPRO Indrani Banerjee said.
 

In the second incident, A 19-year-old youth also jumped before a train at Gitanjali station at around 5.53 PM, police said.

The youth was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital.

In this case, train services were affected to and from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar to Kavi Subhash stations for around half an hour, a metro official said.
