Two Uttar Pradesh legislators -- BSP's Uma Shankar Singh and BJP's Bagrang Bahadur Singh -- facing disqualification for "working as contractors after being elected to the state assembly" today met Governor Ram Naik and presented their representation.

The two legislators met the Governor and submitted their representation to him with regard to their case, a Raj Bhawan release said, adding the Governor would study their replies and take a final decision on it by month end.

The Governor had earlier sought the Election Commission's opinion on State Lokayukta N K Mehrotra's recommendation (on December 2) for disqualification of the two legislators as they were "working as contractors after being elected to the state assembly".

The Lokayukta, in his report to the Governor, had said the act of the two MLAs was in violation of the Representation of People Act.

The two MLAs had met the Governor on January 9 and sought time to present their point of view in the case.
