Two armed snatchers riding a motorcycle shot at a businessman when he resisted their bid to take away his bag in East Delhi's Shahadara, police said today.

According to the police, Rakesh Pathak (44) a resident of Shahdara, was returning home at around 9 PM yesterday when the incident took place.

"Pathak, who runs a surgical equipments shop at Chandni Chowk's Bhagirath Palace boarded a metro from Chandni Chowk for Shahadara. When he came out of Shahadara metro station and started walking towards his home nearby, two youths stopped their bike in front of him and attempted to snatch his bag," said a police officer.

When Pathak resisted, the pillion rider tried to snatch his bag. When he failed to do so, the person driving the bike took out a pistol and shot at him twice one of which hit him in his leg.

Despite the bullet injury, Pathak did not let his bag go. The snatcher then fired another shot on his back and fled from the spot, police said.

A passerby then made a call to the PCR and the victim was taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital where an operation was performed to take out the bullets from his body.

"He is recuperating and is out of danger," said the senior police officer adding a case of robbery and attempt to murder has been registered and a hunt is on to apprehend the unidentified accused.
