At least 20 persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in ransacking the police station and attack on policemen at Polasara in Ganjam district of Odisha earlier this week, police said today.

Hailing from Polasara and Bhabarada areas, these people were arrested yesterday.

They had allegedly set ablaze a van and several motorcycles besides ransacking the furniture of Polasara police station on August 22, said Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Purushottampur, Dillip Das.

The SDPO himself was also allegedly assaulted by the mob.

Angry over the delay in arrest of people involved in killing of a woman, who had protested an eve teasing incident, the mob had on August 22 attacked Polasara police station and blocked the road near it.

The husband of the slain woman, Kamala Swain (45), had earlier filed an FIR against four persons accusing them of passing lewd comments towards their school going daughter.

The four then allegedly beat the woman to death on August 21. Prakash Swain, the woman's husband, had also sustained injuries in the attack.

The police have arrested three of the four accused allegedly involved in the murder and, police said, efforts are on to nab the fourth persons.
