23 persons evacuated after rains damage houses in Poonch

Four houses were damaged and 23 of their occupants evacuated to safer places after sinking of land due to torrential rains in a forward border hamlet in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The state Minister for Education, Naeem Akthar, while replying to an issue raised by National Conference MLC Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri, today informed the Legislative Council that 4 residential houses have been damaged in Balnai village of Tehsil Mandi in Poonch district due to torrential rains.

He said 23 people have temporarily been shifted to safer places.

Naeem further said Tehsildar and Station House Officer concerned have been directed to visit the spot.
 

He said the necessary relief will be provided to the affected families under State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) norms.
