The MeT Department today issued a 24-hour heavy rain alert for a number of places in Uttarakhand, especially those located in Kumaon region.

Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places especially in Pithoragarh, Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, Dehradun, Haridwar and Pauri districts during the next 24 hours, the MeT Office here said.

First four out of the seven districts named above are in Kumaon.

The region bore the brunt of monsoon rains yesterday as well. A landslide triggered by heavy showers killed a woman and damaged roads and bridges in Pithoragarh district.
