25 kg gold seized, 4 persons arrested in West Bengal

In a major haul, Central agencies have seized around 25 kg of gold from two different places in West and arrested four persons, official sources said today.

Acting on specific information sleuths of the Directorate of raided a place at Sevoke Road in Siliguri town and seized 20 kg of gold last evening, they said.

The seized gold is valued at about Rs 5.4 crore in the market, the sources said.

The DRI sleuths arrested two men for smuggling the yellow metal, they said.

The two men had brought the gold from Jaigaon in to Siliguri, which serves as the gateway to the north east, for smuggling it to other places, the sources added.

They were produced before a local court which remanded them to DRI custody for seven days.

The Customs Intelligence unit seized 5 kg of gold valued at about Rs 1.5 crore from area and arrested two persons last night.

Acting on a tip off, the customs sleuths nabbed the two, when they were trying to board an bound train from last night, the sources said.

After frisking their baggage, the officials seized about five kg of gold. Both of them were arrested, the sources added.
