In response to a question in Lok Sabha, minister of state in the UD ministry Deepa Dasmunshi said surprise checks were carried out in General Pool Residential Accommodation to detect subletting.
As per the data provided by her, 284 cases in Delhi and 82 cases in other areas had come to notice in 2012. In 2011 there had been 527 cases of subletting in Delhi and 64 in other regional offices.
In response to another question, Dasmunshi said that he Gujarat government had requested the Centre for allotment of land for the expansion of Gujarat Bhawan.
"The proposal was examined and it is not possible to allot additional land," she said.
