29 arrested for staging black flag protest

Twenty nine activists of a pro-Tamil outfit were today arrested when they attempted to stage black flag demonstration against Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram near here denouncing Centre's stand on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue, police said.

The 'Nam Tamizhar Iyakkam' activists, who had gathered near the Ambedkar statue with black flags, were taken into custody, police said.

Chidambaram is here to participate in various functions including opening of Bank branches in his Sivaganga constituency.
