As many as three candidates including a woman contestant have filed their nomination papers for the by-elections in Nongstoin constituency in West Khasi Hills district, officials said today.
Among those who have filed their nomination papers include Independent woman candidate Fenella Lyngdoh, Congress candidate Gabriel Wahlang and Opposition Hill State People's Democratic Party (HSPDP) candidate Dios Jyndiang, Returning Officer Silvester Kharlyngdoh told PTI.
Polling for the by-election is scheduled to be held on November 21.
The seat fell vacant after the death of HSPDP President and Hill State movement leader Hoping Stone Lyngdoh.
He was 87-year-old and died on September 26 last.
