A 35-year-old man was found injured and in an unconscious state with his eyes gouged out near Ayodhya railway station today, police said.
According to Faizabad SSP KB Singh, the victim, identified as Krishna Dev Varma (35), a resident of Giridih district of Jharkhand, has been admitted to hospital for treatment.
SSP Singh added that, in this connection, a Sub-Inspector has been suspended for negligence of duty while a Crime Branch team has been constituted to probe the matter.
The SSP, meanwhile, denied speculation amongst locals that Varma had fallen prey to a gang of human organ smugglers.
