A placement agency has allegedly duped thirty-six aspirants by promising them employment in UAE, police said.
Harsh Kumar and his sixteen colleagues in a complaint to the Ghaziabad police said they had handed over their passports to a manager of a Indirapuram-based private firm.
All the aspirants had deposited rupees thirty to fifty thousand each with the manager, who had promised to deliver them tickets and work visa on August 6, the day they were scheduled to board a flight for Abu Dhabi.
On the said day, all 36 applicants visited airport but could not find the manager there. They tried to contact him (manager) over mobile phone, but it was switched off.
Harsh said the applicants visited the office of the company several times, but it was found locked.
A cognisable FIR has been registered under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of IPC, Station Officer, Indirapuram police station, Hari Dayal Yadav said.
A manhunt is on to nab the manager and his mobile phones have been put on surveillance, police said.
