37 pc votes polled in 'Kanthi Dakshin' Assembly by-poll

An estimated 37 per cent polling was registered in 'Kanthi Dakshin' Assembly by-poll in East Midnapore district till 11.30 AM, a district election official said today.

Altogether 2,7,337 voters were eligible to cast their votes in the by-poll.

Five candidates are in the fray including Chandrima Bhattacharya of TMC, Sourindra Mohan Jana of BJP, Uttam Pradhan of CPI(M), Nabakumar Nandi of Congress.

Voters, a large number of them women, were seen standing before 258 booths spread across the constituency since the morning braving heat and humidity.

The by-election is being held after TMC MLA Dibyendu Adhikari's election to the Lok Sabha from Tamluk seat.
