A 38-year-old tea estate worker was trampled to death by a wild elephant at a remote village near here late last night, forest officials said today.
Vijayakumar was returning home with his colleague on a two-wheeler around midnight when the elephant stood in the middle of the road near Pandalur, about 80 km from here.
After stopping the vehicle, they tried to escape but the elephant caught hold of Vijayakumar and trampled him to death, they said.
The other person managed to escape but was injured due to falls while running for safety, the officials added.
