"With their arrest, eight such cases have been solved," said police.

Surender Mohan Kumar, a retried government official, had lodged a complaint with police stating that he was duped of Rs 27 lakh by a group of four people last month.

"In his complaint, Kumar said that on his way back home after withdrawing Rs 27 lakh from bank, he was stopped by a cyclist who wanted to know the location of Japanese Park," police said.

While Kumar was telling him the direction, another cyclist came over there and asked the first one about the purpose of his visit. The first cyclist said he was selling lottery ticket, police said.

When the first cyclist told him that he is a lottery ticket seller, then the second cyclist insisted on purchasing a lottery. The cyclist got a prize of Rs 200.

Thereafter, one more passerby stopped and opened a lottery and found it empty. The lottery ticket seller told the customer that as per the lottery company's policy he would get double the amount which he shows, police said.

"Subsequently, all the three induced Kumar to open the lottery. He handed over the withdrawn cash Rs 27 lakh to them to claim double amount.

"Meanwhile, the accused offered him cold drink and after taking cold drink, he fell unconscious and the accused decamped with his cash," Police said adding that such cases had been reported from neighbourhood areas on earlier occasion as well.

A police team arrested the accused persons from Madhuban Chowk area. The accused have confessed to have their involvement in the crime, said police.
