4 held for cricket betting in North Bengal

The West Bengal CID today arrested four persons from Mainaguri town in Jalpaiguri district for allegedly running a cricket betting racket, a senior officer said.
Acting on a tip-off, CID sleuths conducted a raid at a house under the jurisdiction of Mainaguri police station and arrested Gopal Sarkar, Bhola Das, Pravat Kangsa Banik and Pankaj Saha, he said.
"During a search operation, some incriminating documents regarding betting, 10 mobile phones and cash amounting to Rs 3,77,620 were recovered," the officer said.
Preliminary probe revealed that the accused were using a website to conduct betting in the ongoing Indian Premier League matches where people were contacted to bet, he added.
A case has been started at Mainaguri police station and the four accused would be forwarded to court tomorrow with prayer for police remand, the officer said.
