45-day annual fishing ban begins on April 15

The annual 45-daybanonfishingin Nagapattinam and Karaikal coastal areas is scheduled to commence on April 15.

The Governments of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry have imposed thebanunder provisions of the Deep seaFishingRegulation Act, 2001.

Every year, between April 15 and May 29, engine-propelled trawlers will not be allowed forfishingactivities.

In separate press releases, Nagapattinam District Collector S Pazhanisamy and Karaikal District Assistant Director of Fisheries Natesa Pillai have issued directions to the fishermen of the respective districts in this regard.

Hundreds of mechanised boats in Nagapattinam and Karaikal districts will not venture into the sea forfishing during the period.
