A 45-year-old peepal tree, which is reportedly to be axed to pave way for road expansion, was today relocated from Kurichi to Chettipalayam in the city.

Learning that the peepal tree was on the list of felling by the Highway department to expand Pollachi Road, OSAI, an NGO, which has transplanted over 20 trees on various locations, took up the task.

Accordingly the NGO dug and removed the tree with roots intact with the help of an earth mover and relocated it to Firebird Institute of Research and Management, Chettipalayam, some 10 KM from Kurichi tank, OSAI officials said.
