The Mizoram Police on Thursday pushed back 47 non-tribal people living in Aizawl city allegedly for non-possession of valid Inner Line Permit (ILP) after local courts convicted them for violation of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873, Aizawl district Superintendent of Police (SP) Lalhuliana Fanai said.
Fanai told PTI that police personnel of four Police Stations within Aizawl city limits rounded up 117 non-tribals on Wednesday, of which 47 were pushed back to neighbouring Assam at the inter-state border.
He said those who were arrested for not keeping their ILP with them, but were produced by their relatives or friends later on, were released while some of the applications were lying pending in the office of the district deputy commissioner.

An official police statement appealed to all sponsors of non-tribals to ensure that the people employed by them should have valid ILPs.
ILPs are issued under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulations, 1873 and all non-tribals must have then in order to enter Mizoram and few other North Eastern states.
