5 arrested for smuggling 20 quintals of cannabis in Raj

Five persons, including a policeman, were today arrested for allegedly smuggling 20 quintals of cannabis valued over Rs 1 crore in Dausa district of Rajasthan, police said today.

The accused identified as Jitendra, Surendra, Anand, Jagdish and Balram were unloading the truck in a factory in Lalsot industrial area last night.

Following a tip-off, the accused were held by the Anti-Terrorist Squad and seized the psychotropic substance along with the vehicle, they said.

"Anand, the driver of the Lalsot's CO and a constable- ranked officer, was also allegedly involved in the smuggling. The substance was said to have been brought from Odissa," ATS officer Vijay Kumar said.
 

Driver Anand escorted the truck from Kota to Lalsot in Dausa, SP Dausa Anshuman Bhomia said, adding that disciplinary action against him will be taken.

Market value of the seized cannabis is estimated over Rs one crore.
