5 booked for opium cultivation in Rajouri

Five persons were booked for cultivation of crop in and Kashmir's district, police said.

Police team from Darhal, headed by Thanamandi, and received specific inputs about cultivation of crop in some fields, following which a special team was deputed, a said.

The crop was grown in the fields of Chowkian and Dodaj villages and five local residents, including Mohd Ikhlaq, Abdul Majeed, HajiGhulam and Mohd Shakoor, all residents of and of Chowkian Darhal, were booked, he said.

"Today, teams of police, along with revenue staff, raided in the said areas and after hours long operations, succeeded in destroying the crop," the said.

A case has been registered against the accused and efforts are on to nab them, he said.
