Five persons have been booked for torturing and harrasing for dowry a woman who was given triple talaq by her husband in 2016, the police said today.

Hours after the Supreme Court on Tuesday declared triple talaq illegal, Sofia Ahmad lodged the complaint against her husband, sister-in-law, sister-in-law's son, mother-in-law and father-in-law in Swaroop Nagar police station here.

ASP Gaurav Vanshlal said on Ahmad's complaint, a case of dowry torture and domestic violence was registered and the matter would be investigated.

Ahmad was married to Shariq Arafat on June 12, 2015.

She alleged that soon after her marriage there were disputes between them and she was also tortured and beaten.

In her complaint, she alleged that after the birth of her son, her in-laws and husband forced her to get Rs one crore and a sports car from her father.

When she refused, she was given triple talaq by her husband and kicked out of the house on August 13, 2016, she claimed.

She alleged that her sister-in-law had political connections in the previous government, so the police did not lodge a complaint that time and no action was taken.
