Five policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector, were suspended for allegedly assaulting BJP MLA Ajit Singh Mehta's son and his friend in Tonk district of Rajasthan.

Mehta's son Vishal and his friend Abhishek Jain had gone to Kotwali police station to register a complaint over a dispute of a shop near a temple here, Superintendent of Police Priti Jain said.

Abhishek's father Kamlesh Jain is a representative of the trust which runs the temple.

At the police station, Abhishek had a scuffle with a few policemen in which Vishal also got involved. Vishal was not hurt as it was Abhishek and the policemen who were actually involved in the scuffle, Jain told PTI.

Vishal alleged that he and his supporters were beaten up by the police and their mobiles were also snatched away following which he informed his father.

BJP workers gathered outside the police station and raised slogans demanding action against the policemen allegedly involved in beating up Vishal and his partners, including Abhishek.

"Five policemen, including ASI Rajpal Singh, head constable Badri Lal, constables Aarif Mohammad, Jitendra Kumar and Brijendra have been suspended. They were also booked following a complaint by Abhishek's father," the SP said.
