A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 13-year-old cousin in tribal dominated Kandhamal district, the police said today.
The incident took place at Pitabari village under Phulbani sadar police limit on Saturday night.
Taking advantage of the absence of her family members, the accused lured the girl to a nearby shop to purchase a chocolate for her and allegedly raped her, the FIR lodged by the victim's father said.
When the victim raised an alarm and started crying, some villagers rescued her from the spot but the accused fled away soon after the incident from his village for sometime, the police said.
Acting up on the FIR, sadar police caught the accused and forwarded him to the Principal justice, Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), Phulbani yesterday and sent the girl to the district hospital here for examination and treatment.
The boy was also sent to nearby Gumagarh Public Health Centre for medical examination, Trupti Ranjan Nayak OIC, Sadar Police Station, said.
