56 complaints of child pornography received from 2016-20: Irani

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) received 56 complaints and cases pertaining to online child sexual exploitation content from 2016 to 2020, Union Minister for Women and Child Development informed the Lok Sabha on Friday.

She shared the figures while replying to a question seeking details of the number of registered cases of online child pornography and child sexual exploitation content with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights during the last three years.

Besides, the Commission also inquired to check availability of child pornography material and found 31 such websites, she said.

After taking suo-motu cognizance, the NCPCR got these 31 cases registered on the Cyber Crime Portal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for necessary action at their end, she said.

 

According to the data shared by the minister, seven complaints were received in 2016-17 and 2017-18 from across the country while 23 and 19 cases were reported to the commission in 2018-19 and 2019-20 respectively.

Uttar Pradesh and Delhi had the highest number of complaints at 17 and 10 respectively, as per the data.
