Six persons, including two women, were today killed and five others injured when the vehicle carrying them collided with a lorry in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, police said.
The incident curred between 5.30 am and 6 am when a van, carrying 11 pilgrims, collided head-on with a lorry near Sitarampet in Yerpedu mandal of the district, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Renigunta Sub-Division) K S Nanjundappa said.
Six van occupants died on the spot while five others were injured, he said.
The victims, hailing from Guntur district, were on their way to the famous pilgrimage centre of Tirumala, police said.
