6 killed in road mishap in Odisha

At least six persons, including two babies, were today killed and 10 others injured in road mishap in Odisha's Rayagada district, police said.

The accident took place when an auto-rickshaw carrying 16 persons collided head-on against a cotton-loaded truck coming from the opposite side at Kothapeta village, they said.

The victims were returning home after celebrating Maha Shivratri festival at a nearby area, the police said.

The six persons died on the spot including the two babies belonging in the age group of one to two years, the inspector- in-charge of Chandili police station, Uday Chandra Seth said.

The condition of the four persons was critical, Seth said, adding all the injured have been admitted to the district headquarters Hospital here.
 

The cause of the accident is under investigation, police added.
