68 arrested for not posessing valid ILPs

Mizoram Police raided different places in the state and arrested 68 non-tribals for allegedly not having valid inner line permits, Aizawl district Police spokesperson today said.
The spokesperson said that of the 68 non-tribal people arrested in the raids yesterday, 20 were released by local courts.
He said that 48 people were convicted by local courts under provisions of Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulations (BEFR), 1873 and were pushed back to Assam last evening.
Non-tribals from outside scheduled areas including Mizoram were required to possess ILPs in order to enter the tribal areas as specified in the BEFR.
