The 72nd Infantry Day was observed at the Wellington military station in Nilgiris district Saturday to commemorate the sacrifice of men during the battle to save the Kashmir valley.
A wreath-laying ceremony was conducted at the war memorial of the Madras regimental centre, a release said.
Infantry Day is observed annually on October 27 since the first contingent of the infantry landed at Srinagar and fought the battle with intruders in the valley, the release said.
