95 candidates left in the fray for SMC polls

A total of 34 candidates withdrew from the contest on the last date of the withdrawal today.

Seven candidates were left for the post of Mayor as three opted out of the contest while one withdrew his nomination for the post of Deputy Mayor, leaving five in the fray.

Thirty candidates from 25 wards also withdrew their nominations, leaving 83 the the fray. The elections will be held on May 27 and counting of votes would take place on May 28.

The direct election are being held for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor while 50 per cent seats were reserved (13 out of 25) for woman candidates for the first time.
