The Jammu and Kashmir government has said that Aadhaar number will not be made mandatory for getting rations in the state till June.

Some complaints were received regarding consumers being asked to furnish Aadhaar details to get ration. Although the Centre has made Aadhaar number must for rations, the state government has extended the date, state minister for food, civil supplies and consumer affairs Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali has said.

Aadhaar number should not be demanded till June, the minister said, and instructed officers of the department concerned to provide ration to the beneficiaries on ration ticket.

"We will make it mandatory after maximum enrolment is done. Efforts are on to get everyone enrolled by that time," he said, and sought people's cooperation in the enrolment process.
