The AAP today demanded a Supreme Court-monitored SIT probe into Mathura violence alleging that criminals were patronised by the "higher ups".

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal talked to the family of slain SP Mukul Dwivedi over the phone and conveyed condolences.

A delegation led by AAP leader Sanjay Singh and party MLAs Naresh Yadav, Rajesh Gupta and Dinesh Mohania also visited the residence of Dwivedi.

"The land mafia who occupied the prime land in Mathura had patronage of higher ups and is a matter of investigation," Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson and senior party leader Sanjay Singh said without taking the name of Samajwadi Party.

"The mafia which tried to gain control over land in Mathura functioned under patronage of the powerful.

An SIT under the supervision of the Supreme Court should investigate the nexus and the guilty need to be punished," Singh added.
