A group of eminent academicians today briefed West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi on various academic issues in Jadavpur University and also sought his intervention.

Sukanta Chaudhuri, professor emeritus of the English department at JU, said around 15 interdisciplinary schools at the university has no directors.

"The process of appointing them is also not very clear. Who will appoint and when, we do not know. There are a number of issues which we have discussed with the governor and also sought his intervention as the chancellor of the university," Chaudhuri told reporters after the meeting at Raj Bhavan.

The delegation included former JU vice-chancellor Ashokenath Basu, former Vidyasagar University vice-chancellor Anandadeb Mukherjee, former professor of English at JU Jashodhara Bagchi.

They briefed the Governor on current developments at the university and also expressed their concerns.

Mukherjee pointed the issue over selection of teachers in JU, which has been in news recently after police crackdown over vice-chancellor's gherao by students who were demanding a fresh probe panel into a molestation case.
