ACB sleuths unearthed assets worth over Rs 9 crore from the residence and lockers of two PWD engineers here after they were caught accepting a bribe of Rs 22,000 for clearing a bill of a road contractor.

The duo--Executive Engineer Satish Madhukar Chikhalikar, and Branch Engineer Jagdish Magan Wagh-- were today remanded in police custody till May 10 by a local court.

They were held on April 30 while receiving the sum, ACB chief Shashikant Mahavarkar said.

Yesterday, ACB officials throughly searched the houses, bank lockers of both the engineers and unearthed assets disproportionate to their known source of income.

While four kilograms of gold, silver ornaments totalling Rs 8.7 crore apart from cash were seized from Satish's facilities, cash, gold and property totalling Rs 86.71 lakh were recovered from Jagdish's locker, they said.

The duo was admitted to Nashik civil hospital when they were held on April 30 after they complained of chest pain.

However, they were discharged last night following which they were arrested and produced before a court here.
