Accused slashes himself inside courtroom

An accused tried to commit suicide by cutting himself with blade at a court here today, police said.

Sheikh Amir, accused of house-breaking, was produced before a metropolitan magistrate's court in Rajendranagar this morning.

During the hearing, he suddenly took out a blade and slashed himself in several places, said inspector V Umender of Rajendranagar police station.

"He was shifted to a nearby hospital immediately. He was discharged after treatment and sent back to jail," the police officer said.

A case of attempt to commit suicide under section 309 of IPC was registered against him, inspector Umender added.
