Ace cueist Pankaj Advani today moved to the main draw of the 3rd Indian Open world ranking snooker tournament following a win over world number 109 Fang Xiongman on the opening day of the championship here.

Breaks of 49, 40 and 66 helped him secure a 4-2 win over Xiongman, a release from the organisers said.

The billiards world champion would face Elliot Slessor in round one tomorrow.

The other Indians, Manan Chandra and Lucky Vatnani, however, did not fare too well as they suffered 4-1 defeats against Andrew Higginson and David Grace respectively, the release stated.

One of the other important matches of the day was the face-off between veterans Joe Swail and Jimmy White. The match was keenly fought and the Northern Irishman had the last laugh as he confirmed his place in the second round with a 4-2 win.
