Advocates end fast

Three advocates of Madras High

court today withdrew their fast unto death demanding Tamil be made the court language, following assurance from leaders of Madras High Court Advocates Association.

Velmurugan, Bhagat Singh and Angayar Kanni began the fast inside the court premises on September 14. Repeated requests and negotiations by officers of the High Court did not yield any result.

They withdrew the fast after candidates for the coming Madras High Court Advocates election, Mohanakrishnan, Paulkanakaraj, Muthuramalingam went personally and assured them that after Election of MHAA, the elected body would take the matter seriously and see that it was implemented.
 

Later they met the Acting Chief Justice R K Agrawal in his chambers and said the advocates should not be prevented from arguing in Tamil till an official announcement and decision comes in the matter.
