A conductor was seriously injured today when a group of his colleagues at a state-owned transport corporation bus depot allegedly assaulted him for making 'defamatory' remarks against Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, Police said.

Injured Baskaran had been admitted to a hospital in a serious condition, they said.

A chat between the crew members attached to the depot turned into heated exchange after Baskaran allegedly made some defamatory remarks against the Chief Minister.

Enraged over this, some workers owning allegiance to the ruling AIADMK's labour wing 'Anna Thozhir Sangam' assaulted Baskaran with logs and rods, police said, adding further investigation was on.

Police said tension prevailed in the depot and they were closely monitoring the situation.
