Alleged dowry death in Jalpaiguri

A 20-year old woman died due to poisoning at Jalpaiguri hospital in a suspected case of dowry death, the CMOH, Jalpaiguri hospital said here today.

Shefali Begum of Dakshin Khairbari area under Dhupguri block had complained of torture by her in-laws six months after her marriage. Two years after her marriage, she allegedly took poison on thursday and was rushed to Dhupguri hospital, a police officer said.

She was referred to Jalpiguri hospital as her condition deteriorated, the officer said.

The girl's family has registered an FIR against six members of the in-laws family with Dhupguri police station who are absconding.
