The Kolkata Metropolitan Water and Sanitary Authority and Kolkata Improvement Trust (KIT) has been successfully amalgamated with Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) for better manpower utilisation, Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim said today.

"Though it was thought of by the previous government, we have successfully implemented it after discussing with the trade unions," Hakim told reporters outside the Assembly.

Speaking in the house during Urban Development department budget, he said spending has increased multiple times in the last 6-7 years.

During the Left Front rule, they had able to set up just two potable water projects in as many municipalities, while this government already completed 55 such projects and work is under progress in some 19 more water projects.

The house passed the Rs 9998 crore budget for the 2018-19.

Hakim said several new projects including flyovers have been undertaken by his department.
