Ammonia leak at ice plant, 10 fall sick

At least 10 persons fell sick due to ammonia gas leak from an ice factory at Mandir bazar in South 24 Parganas district this evening, police said.

Police said two fire tenders were at work to plug the leak which was preceded by a fire in the ice plant at Polerhaat area.

Some of those who fell sick were taken to Diamond Harbour hospital while others were being treated at different nearby nursing homes, they said.

They were complaining of nausea, police said quoting doctors at different medicare facilities.

Two employees of the ice plant managed to run away, they said.
