Andrzej Wajda was completely involved in 'Afterimage' making

Veteran Polish director Andrzej Wajda was involved in every aspect of the making of "Afterimage", the last film of his career before his demise, according to the movie's editor.

"Afterimage" is the opening film of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which will be inaugurated by veteran filmmaker Ramesh Sippy in the presence of Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu here later today.

"Andrzej Wajda was involved in every aspect of the film - shooting, editing and sound designing and was very happy at the completion of the film," film's editor Grazyna Gradon, told reporters ahead of the film festival.
 

"His age did not affect his direction (capability) of the film in any way," she said.

The 90-year-old filmmaker died in October this year.

The passionate biopic portrays the complex relationship between power and art.

"The film does not ask questions, but puts out questions and compels people to contemplate on the issues involved," said Michal Kwiecinski, the film's producer.

He said "Afterimage" is a very special movie for the whole Polish film community.

"The storyline of the film is based on the contemporary history of Poland and the cast and crew of the film is curious to know the response of the Indian audience, as the connect will prove the universal theme of relationship between the power, art and the artiste," he said.

Recalling her working experience with Wajda, film's costume designer Katarzyna Lewinska said he was the best partner to work with and once he was convinced of the capabilities and potential of his co-worker, he gave him or her absolute freedom.
