Anil Shastri demands Bansal's removal

Press Trust of India  |  New Delhi

As the Opposition clamour for Railway Minister P K Bansal's resignation grew louder, a leader today came out in the open demanding his removal, saying "morality has reached its lowest ebb".

The "PM should follow the same yardstick for his ministers as did Sonia ji in the case of J B Patnaik, & Shashi Tharoor", Anil Shastri, a special invitee to Working Committee, on the microblogging site Twitter.

Shastri's reference was to Gandhi's sacking of Patnaik and Chavan as and Chief Ministers respectively and Tharoor as a Union Minister. Tharoor has since made a comeback in the government.

Shastri, son of the late Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, also took a dig at Bansal for not putting his papers in the wake of the arrest of his nephew on the charge of accepting a bribe to fix a position in the Railway Board.

"It's difficult to believe that Lal Bahadur Shastri was Railway Minister once upon a time. Morality has reached its lowest ebb", he said in another tweet in an obvious reference to Shastri quitting as Railway Minister following an train accident.

With the government under attack over a number of scams, Shastri tweeted, "Govt's omissions & commissions have brought the efforts of Sonia ji & Rahul ji to naught.
