Depressed over his crop loss in recent incessant rains and consequent floods, a farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide at his residence at K Kotapadu village in the district.

Though the incident took place yesterday evening, it came to light today after his family members lodged a complaint at K Kotapadu police station.

The farmer, K Kasubabu (48), had taken loans from private moneylenders and invested it in farming, only to see his entire paddy crop washed away in the recent heavy rains.

The police said Kasubabu was found by his family members in a semi-conscious stage with an empty bottle of pesticide next to him, at his residence.

He was admitted to the near by hospital which referred him to the King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam. He died on his way to the hospital yesterday.
